'Tis the season of (re)gifting

The festive season can be overwhelming - so many tasks to juggle, dates to remember, people to try and catch up with...! Add to that a busy and cluttered house, and the prospect of trying to clear stuff out can seem impossible. Try a few of these tips to gift a few of your own treasures and clear space at the same time...

Use the glass jar

If you find it hard to let go of pretty or ‘useful’ glass jars, containers, or even ribbons and decorative items – now is their time! Put them to good use by using them to gift an item that you’ve made (maybe some sweet treats or baked items), or use them to make a few smaller items look like an intentional collection. Shops sell boxed up items like handcreams and candle sets for a premium, so save your pennies and declutter as you go by buying individually and box them up yourself.

Make the wrapping part of the gift

If you’ve got a big collection of light scarves, fabric for crafting, or even a festive bed set that you don’t really love or use, why not take a look at furoshiki wrapping and declutter some of these while making the fabric part of the gift?
You don’t need to be a whizz at origami or an expert sewist, and it means you don’t have to spend extra on wrapping paper and ribbons to create a beautiful gift!

Share a story

Letting go of books can be really hard, but if you have an extensive collection of books which you enjoyed but probably won’t re-read then try gifting some of those stories to your loved ones. You could include a note at the front saying why you chose it for them, and maybe an agreement to meet up in the new year to chat about the book. This creates an opportunity for connection and shared experiences that gifting socks just won’t bring.

Give a nourishing gift

So many of us start the new year with the promise of eating better, or being more healthily, so take the opportunity now to sort through your collection of recipe books and find the ones that you bought because they looked lovely but you’ve never actually tried. Then if you know someone who loves trying new dishes, you can gift them a culinary adventure for them to enjoy in the new year.
